3 Things I Learned From Getting Pneumonia During A Pandemic
In this video I tell you the top 3 things I learned from getting pneumonia in a Pandemic and how the heck do you get pneumonia anyway?
First about me… I NEVER get sick… no flu, no colds, no sore throats… never got a flu shot… I don’t take any medications…. and then…
There I was… I’m sitting in a wheelchair in the ER struggling for air… with out a mask on… It came on me quickly. I didn’t have any chest pain or tightness, I hadn’t been coughing, I didn’t have a fever. I was having pain on both of my sides when taking a medium to large breath. It felt like a small electric shock.
YES… I thought that was weird.
After dinner…around 8 pm I was editing a video… and by 10 pm… I’m struggling for air and realizing that I wasn’t going to catch up & needed to go to the ER.
Here’s the top 3 things I learned from getting pneumonia in a Pandemic:
1- Realize You May Need Help.
Where’s the #1 place you NEVER want to be during a pandemic? The ER! I didn’t mention I was feeling pain taking a breath because I’ve never been this sick or had anything overcome me so quickly (seemingly) before… and that’s the LAST place I wanted to go to. But luckily they saved me quickly and I didn’t need to go on a ventilator.
And there I am… sitting in the ER… without a mask on, trying to catch my breath and having more difficulty doing so every minute. I’m wondering if I have Covid and I’m hoping that they don’t tube me and put me on a ventilator… because if that happens… my ability to leave the hospital alive drops by a huge percentage.
2- Ask Someone For Help
When I started having trouble breathing… I didn’t mention it… this makes it much more difficult to explain when you’re struggling for air! When you get asked… WHY DIDN’T YOU MENTION THIS EARLIER??? And then you’re in panic mode and you now need to explain yourself and your action/non-action when you probably need medical help.
3- If You Need Help, Go To The ER!
If you start feeling weird… tell your partner or a close friend as well as your Dr. just in case. It was bacterial… not Covid…
I asked “where do you get pneumonia from?” The answers were all very loose and obscure…. well… in the air… swallowing fluid in your lungs… air droplets from others who have it. So from anywhere then…
All I know is that no one I know got sick other than me… so I got it outside of my pod. I had been pretty good with wearing my mask indoors and I live near the coast… so when you’re outside near the beach… there’s probably not much Covid flying around over the Pacific Ocean… Even if you never think anything like this can happen to you… guess what… me neither.
But if things start to feel weird or not normal… tell someone close who can help you if you need to go to the ER.
Being a hero in this instance is way overrated.
